Psychic Stare

“Why Don’t You Take a Picture, It’ll Last Longer?”

Oh yes, a favorite Pee-wee Herman quote. It’s funny until someone actually says that to you. I’m often made aware of the intensity of my stare. It’s hard for me to explain, but when I look at people I’m constantly getting “hits.” I see snapshots of the past, present and future. I want to watch everything and figure out what this person is all about. But often I get so involved in their “slideshow,” I forget I’m staring!

It's something I've dealt with my whole life. In school, it used to make my teachers very uncomfortable. I'd often get asked, "What are you looking at?" What could I say? “You need to be nicer to your husband and kids?” I'm sure that would have been paid back in years of detention! Anyway, my stares can feel quite intrusive, but I honestly can't help it. Staring helps me do my best work.
